Isle of Man Sport Members are appointed by the Council of Ministers for a four year period under the following terms of reference were formalised in a Tynwald Resolution of October 1990:

 

These are;

  • To act as an independent forum for the promotion & development of sports and recreation.    
  • To provide advice and expertise to the Minister and the Department of Education and Children on all matters pertaining to sports and recreation on the Island.
  • To provide to the Department of Education of Children proposals for a strategy for the development of sports and recreation. To execute such other functions within the Department of Education and Children in relation to sports and recreation as may be delegated by the Minister to Council, in accordance with the Government Departments Act 1987.
  • To have due regard to the views of those persons involved in sport and recreation in the Island whilst performing its function.

Isle of Man Sport (formerly the Isle of Man Sports Council) is made up of representatives appointed by Tynwald order.
